Haryana bag five gold on second day of wrestling competition

Ranchi, Feb 24 (PTI) Haryana grapplers continued todominate on the second day of the wrestling competition asthey added five more gold medals here today, to take theirtally to nine yellow metals in the 34th National Games.

Haryana''s Commonwealth gold medallist Mausham Khetrihardly stretched himself to beat Jharkhand''s Narendra for thegold in the 96 kg freestyle men''s wrestling competition.

While Punjab''s Gurupal Singh and Satyavrat of Uttarakhandsettled for bronze as the losing semifinalists in this heavyweight category.

Khetri''s statemate Amit Kumar also finished on the top inthe 96 kg Greco-Roman style bout after defeating SSCB''s AshokKumar. UP''s Harendra and Punjab''s Gagandeep took the bronzemedals.

Haryana grappler Suman Kundu overpowered Punjab''s NaujitRakhi to bag the gold in the women''s 57 kg competition whileDelhi''s Jyoti and MP''s Naujit Rani claimed the bronze.

Anita of Haryana won her bout over Manipur''s N Tombi Deviin the women''s 63 kg to take the gold while UP''s Rajni andManu Sekhavat of MP finished with bronze.

In the 84 kg Greco-Roman style competition, Haryana''sRinku became the champion after defeating Punjab''s VikramSharma to snap the gold. SSCB''s Naresh and Jharkhand''s Yashpaltook the bronze.

In the women''s 72 kg bout, Gursharan of Punjab defeatedJharkhand''s Nikki to take the yellow metal while Haryana''sAnmol and UP''s Anshu Tomar returned with bronze.

Himachal Pradesh opened its account in the wrestlingevent when John Choudhary beat Haryana''s Ranbir to win theyellow metal. Chandigarh''s Jaspal and Delhi''s Pawan securedthe bronze medals.

Yesterday, the Haryana grapplers had won four goldmedals.
