Gurgaon to host Afghanistan-Bhutan AFC Challenge Cup match

New Delhi, Feb 22 (PTI) India will play host toAfghanistan''s AFC Challenge Cup pre-qualifying football matchagainst Bhutan due to the volatile situation in that country,a top AIFF official said today.

Afghanistan and Bhutan were to play home and away matchesof their pre-qualifying match of 2012 AFC Challenge Cup. Butthe unstable situation in Afghanistan has led to India hostingboth the matches at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Gurgaon on March23 and 24.

"It is not possible to host Afghanistan''s home match intheir country. So We are going to host it," AIFF generalsecretary Kushal Das told PTI.

"Since Afghanistan are playing their home match in Indiait would be unfair for them to play in Bhutan for their awaymatch. So the return-leg match will also be held at Gurgaon,"he said.

The winner after the two matches will join North Korea,Nepal and Sri Lanka in Group D of the AFC Challenge Cupqualifying round to be held in Kathmandu from April 7-11.

Both the matches will kick off at 1500 hrs IST.

Meanwhile, the executive committee of the AIFF will meettomorrow and top on the agenda is expected to be a discussionon the review made by technical committee on the performanceof the Indian team at Asian Cup in Doha, Qatar last month.

The AIFF technical committee has expressed disappointmentat the Indian team''s performance in the continent''s showpieceevent, according to sources.

The committee had asked national coach Bob Houghton tosubmit a report on the Indian''s team performance in the AsianCup.
