India keeping a close watch on situation in Libya

New Delhi, Feb 22 (PTI) Government today said it iskeeping a close watch on the situation in violence-hit Libyawhere all Indians are safe.

"The situation is being closely-monitored by theExternal Affairs Ministry and we are in constant touch withthe Ambassador there. I am happy to inform that all Indiansare safe in Libya," External Affairs Minister S M Krishna toldreporters outside Parliament.

The Minister said the mission in Libya was in constanttouch with Indian citizens there and "whatever needs to bedone, will be done."Libya is witnessing a volatile situation in the wakeof unprecedented revolt against the 41-year rule of Libyanleader Muammar Gaddafi.

Asked about the help being provided to workers there,Krishna said, "We don''t differentiate between ''mazdoors andnon-mazdoors'' (labourers and non-labourers). Every Indian isprecious to us."Overseas Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi said, "Acommittee has already been formed to monitor the situation inLibya and discussions are already on. We have assured ourcitizens there through our Ambassador that whenever anyemergency arises, we will act." PTI ARU AJD
