Husband, head nurse arrested after abortion death

Medininagar (Jharkhand), Feb 21 (PTI) Two persons, a headnurse of the district hospital here and the husband of afour-month-old pregnant woman were arrested after the womandied during abortion here, police sources said today.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Girish Pandey saidSabatina Toppo, the head nurse of the district hospital, wasconducting the abortion on 32-year-old Seema Devi in anillegal private clinic when she died in process last evening.

Seema Devi''s husband Lalan Prajapati, who brought her tothe clinic and Toppa were arrested by the police after Devi''sgrandfather lodged an FIR in the town police station today.

The two were arrested on the charge of conductingoperation in an clinic being run illegally, causing death inthe process as well as destroying female foetus, the DSP said.

Meanwhile, Devi''s relatives and neighbours stage protestbefore the Civil Surgeon�s office after no post-mortem wasconducted even 36-hour after her death.

They dispersed only after the Civil Surgeon, Gopal PrasadSrivastav referred the case to Rajendra Institute of MedicalSciences, Ranchi for post-mortem.
