Goa govt handed over drug nexus case to CBI only in Feb

Panaji, Feb 22 (PTI) Even though Goa government claimedto have handed over the policemen-drug peddler nexus case tothe CBI three months ago, an affidavit filed before the BombayHigh court bench here reveals otherwise.

State under secretary (home) Vishwanath Dangi, in theaffidavit filed before the High court today, said the stategovernment had issued a notification according consent to CBIon February 16, 2011.

"The state government has issued notification datedFebruary 16, 2011 according consent to the extension of powersand jurisdiction of the members of the Delhi Special PoliceEstablishment to the whole of the state of Goa for theinvestigation into the crime registered with Crime branch,"the affidavit placed before the High Court bench reads.

The affidavit was filed in response to the petition filedby the National Students Union of India (NSUI) demanding CBIinquiry into the drug nexus cases.

The state government in its submission to the High Courthas said that the state chief secretary in letters datedJanuary 21, 2011 and January 31, 2011 had requested departmentof personnel and training, New Delhi that the investigationsin these two cases be handed over to CBI.

But the actual notification seeking to transfer the casescame only on February 16, 2011. (More) PTI RPS VKV
