Kolkata, Feb 21 (PTI) A day after Trinamool Congresschief Mamata Banerjee''s call to firm up alliance with Congressfor the ensuing assembly polls, a section of state Congressleaders today welcomed her statement but warned some partyleaders against doing anything that jeopardise the tie-up.
"A section of the Congress leaders may try to put aspanner in the process of the alliance," Pradip Bhattacherjee,state president of the party''s labour wing INTUC told PTIhere.
"It was unfortunate that we could not tie-up with Mamataduring the civic polls. We should tie up with Mamata thistime, keeping in mind that our primary objective is to put anend to the CPI(M)''s over 34-year misrule," the senior Congressleader said.
Besides Bhattacherjee, newly appointed PCC GeneralSecretary Amitava Chakraborty, Jalpaiguri MLA D P Roy andCongress Legislature Party chief whip Asit MAL, and stateparty leader Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, perceived to be close to theUnion Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, issued a jointstatement welcoming Mamata''s call.
"The people of Bengal want to get rid of the CPI(M)misrule and those in the state who would work against thealliance would not be forgiven by the masses," Chakrabortysaid. .
