Rishikesh (Uttarakhand), Feb 21 (PTI) The police fired inthe air as a group of students from New Delhi clashed withlocal people at Bijrani gate of Jim Corbett National park atRamnagar area of Nainital district.
The Corbett administration also slapped a fine of Rs10,000 on the students of Kanshiram College of HigherEducation for violating the norms of the park, officialsources said today.
The incident took place last evening when the studentsvisiting the Corbett park by a jeep got down from the vehicle.
Their guide Shailendra Rawat, however, asked them not to do soas it is prohibited in the park. Soon, an altercation eruptedbetween them. It later turned into a scuffle and the studentsbeat up Rawat.
As the news spread, the police reached the spot and triedto take the students outside the park. Meanwhile, a largenumber of people also gathered at the gate of the Corbett parkand beat up the students.
When the police intervened, the mob also tried tosnatch their arms. Later, the police fired in the air todisperse the mob.
After paying the fine of Rs 10,000, the students left forNew Delhi.
