New Delhi, Feb 21 (PTI) Burglars broke into theresidence of a businessman in Trinagar in northwest Delhi anddecamped with jewellery and cash before setting it on fire inthe wee hours today, police said.
The modus operandi seems to be very similar to the oneadopted by ''burn and burgle'' gang whose leader was arrested onSaturday last.
However, police denied the role of Sanjeev Kumar''s gangin the incident.
The incident was reported from the residence of SanjayJain (40) at 1.15 am after Jain returned from a wedding,police said, adding that neighbours first noticed that thehouse was burning.
"The main door of the house was open and the entirehouse was ransacked. The ground floor was completely charred,"a senior police official said, adding that Jain has claimedthat cash and jewellery worth more than Rs 3 lakh have beenstolen.
He said before burning the house, the gang had erected atent outside the house to avoid suspicion among the neighboursabout their activity.
"They had hired the tent in the name of the house ownerby paying Rs 500 in advance from a nearby tent decorator," theofficial said.
