New Delhi, Feb 21 (PTI) An emotional BJP veteran L KAdvani today hailed the poetic skills of former Prime MinisterAtal Bihari Vajpayee and said though he can recite poems, hecan never write one.
Addressing a gathering at the release of a collectionof poems by senior parliamentarian Najma Heptullah, titled''Impressions'', Advani said had Vajpayee been in good health,he would have requested Heptullah to invite him for the launchof the book.
"I can recite poems by Vajpayee... I have not writteneven a single piece of poetry, though I have written a lot,"Advani said.
He also recited a couple of stanzas from Vajpayee''spoems.
Advani said Bollywood star Aamir Khan, who was presenton the occasion, would have been a better choice for thelaunch of ''Impressions''.
"Poetry is painting in words...I don''t know whetherAamir is a painter, but he certainly is an artist," the BJPleader said after launching the book. Aamir, nephew ofHeptullah, attended the function along with his wife KiranRao.
He also recited some of the poems from ''Impressions''.
In her reply, Heptullah said Advani writes"beautifully" and she was sure the former deputy primeminister wrote poetry in his home as he had a "soft heart".
"You have a very soft heart," Najma told Advani andadded that she had seen the veteran leader in a pensive moodon a number of occasions.
"I have seen... you had tears in your eyes. I am sureyou can write poetry quite in your home...or you are moved bysomething," she said.
Impressions, a collection of poems written atdifferent places over a span of 25 years, was released in thepresence of dignitaries including BJP president Nitin Gadkari,Renewable Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah, former RajasthanChief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia and other seniorleaders.
