Unions to march on Parliament on February 23
Vijayawada, Feb 20 (PTI) G Sanjeeva Reddy, President, AllIndia National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), today said thatall the trade unions in the country will jointly hold a"March to Parliament" on February 23, to put forth a charterof demands, in New Delhi.
Speaking at the inauguration of convention of NationalConfederation of Bank Employees here today, he said that themajor demands of unions were, namely, inflation be curbed,labour laws be updated, and abolition of contract laboursystem, among others.
Minimum wages for unorganised labourers should be fixedat Rs 7,000 a month, he said.
Another demand is that profitable public sectorundertakings should not dis-invested.
Also, Bonus Act should be amended so that all employeesget bonus irrespective of salaries, Reddy said.
For the banking sector, there should be a common pensionpolicy, he demanded.
Globalisation was leading to exploitation of workers, andcreation of only contract jobs, not permanent ones, he said.
