Telangana students rally turns violent

Hyderabad, Feb 21 (PTI) The ''Chalo Assembly'' rally ofTelangana Students Joint Action Committee (TSJAC) turnedviolent at several places in the city here today.

The rally was organised in support of demand forstatehood for Telangana.

"Students hurled stones at the security personnel atAdikmet and Nizam Collage hostel at Basheerbag area forcing usto use tear gas shells to disperse them," East Zone DCP YGangadhar told PTI.

Over 500 students tried to take out a rally from theArts College towards NCC Gate and tried to remove barricadesput up by police. Students indulged in heavy stone peltingwhen they were prevented from marching towards the assembly,the DCP said.

A group of protesting students set fire to a boggie ofa local train at Jamai Osmania railway station. However, apolice party immediately rushed to the spot and extinguishedthe fire, he said adding that five students were taken intocustody in this connection.

Violent protest was also reported from Necklace railwaystation where students set afire a ticket booking centre anddamaged windowpanes of the station by pelting stones, policesaid.
