Hyderabad, Feb 21 (PTI) In view of the 48-hour bandh callgiven by the Telangana Joint Action Committee in the Telanganaregion of Andhra Pradesh from tomorrow, police has sought foradditional central forces for deployment in the city to avertany untoward incidents.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner A K Khan told reportershere that a request for additional central forces fordeployment near the Assembly and Osmania University (OU) inparticular, has been made.
"Security arrangements and preventive measures are inplace, but we are concentrating for enhancing security nearthe Assembly and Osmania University and sought for additionalforces to prevent agitators from indulging in violence duringthe bandh period," he said.
As part of its plans to intensify the agitation forseparate statehood for the region, the Telangana Joint ActionCommittee has given a bandh call on February 22 and 23 in allthe 10 districts of Telangana region.
Referring to the violent incidents that rocked the statecapital today as part of the ''Chalo Assembly'' and ''Chalo RajBhavan'' rallies, Khan said police was gathering evidence onthe violent incidents that occurred near OU and Assembly andwould appropriately book cases against those who violated theprohibitory orders.
He said a group of advocates was responsible for stonepelting, damage and ransacking of the Necklace Road railwaystation.
A committee is studying into the matter wherein some TVchannels broadcast today''s violent incidents and based on itsreport action would be initiated against those TV channels whoviolated the norms of Cable Networks (Regulation) Act, headded.
