Sandeep stuns Diwakar in lightweight boxing

Jamshedpur, Feb 21 (PTI) Olympian Diwakar Prasad''scampaign in the 34th National Games came to an end as theJharkhand boxer was beaten by Haryana''s Sandeep at the JRDTata Sports Complex here today.

The young pugilist exhibited good skills and deliveredaccurate punches to surge ahead in the first round. Hemaintained his good form in the subsequent rounds beforewrapping up the bout 2-0 to move into the semifinal of thelightweight (60 kgs) men''s bout.

V Durga Rao of Karnataka, Neeraj Goyal of Tripura andKerala''s Kulwinder also moved into the semis after theydefeated Amit Roy of West Bengal, Akshay Kumar of Delhi andAnkit Thakur of Himachal Pradesh.

Results:

Women (Bantam 54 kgs): Priyanka Khandeparkar of Goa btMamta Kumari Panda (Orissa); Sushma Kumari (Jharkhand) bt PhSony Chanu (Manipur).

Feather (57kgs): Mandakini Chann (Jharkhand) bt KavitaBhatt (Uttar Pradesh); Priyanka Chaudhary (Uttarakhand) btDorothy Lalchhanhimi (Mizoram); Pavitra (Haryana) bt HemamChaoba Devi (Manipur); Pwilao Basumatary (Assam) bt RinkySingh (Andhra Pradesh).

Light (60 kgs): Meena Rani (Uttar Pradesh) bt SangeetaKumari (Uttarakhand); Sagar Tokas (Delhi) bt Meena(Jharkhand).
