Mumbai, Feb.21 (ANI): The prosecution on the Ajmal Kasb related terror case today described the Bombay High court's decision to uphold the former's death sentence as a triumph of justice and truth.

Ujjwal Nikam, chief prosecutor, said truth and justice had finally triumphed and the court had pronounced death for the extremist after accepting that the case was a 'rarest of the rare' crime.

Mumbai court found Kasab guilty on more than 80 charges, including waging war on India and murder during November 26 to 29, 2008.

Nikkam added: "Kasab tried to mislead the prosecution agencies and investigating agencies through his childish antics. He used to change his statements and even tried in vain to prove himself a minor. We pricked holes in all his points and made a strong case against him."

Kasab watched the court's proceedings through video-conferencing, as his counsel argued for a life sentence, citing the convict was too young and had been under mental and emotional stress.

Indian law permits death for the "rarest of rare" crimes but a higher court must confirm it. Kasab can appeal against the judgment in higher courts before moving a mercy petition to the president. (ANI)
