Meghalaya Congress rubbishes dissidence reports

Shillong, Feb 21 (PTI) Meghalaya Congress today deniedreports of fresh dissidence within the party even as it formedan intra-party grievance cell to prevent any rumblings in thestate unit.

Pradesh Congress president Friday Lyngdoh heads thefive-member grievance cell, which also comprise of formerUnion Minister P R Kyndiah and state unit working presidentDeborah Marak.

"Any Congress MLA, member of district council or partyfunctionary can approach the cell with their grievances. Thecell would coordinate with the state government and try toaddress it," Lyngdoh told a press conference here.

"It is my duty to let the people know of certain factsso that they can clear the air on the series ofmisrepresentations and speculations that have been circulatingrecently," he said.

There had been recent reports of dissatisfaction amongsome party MLAs who allegedly ganged up against chief ministerMukul Sangma and even took their grievances to Congresspresident Sonia Gandhi.

"Congress president denied of having met anydissident. She was categorical that there was no question ofchange in leadership in the state. She has asked all partymento work unitedly for the betterment of the people," Lyngdohsaid.

The Pradesh Congress president also appealed to hispartymen to set at rest any unnecessary or negativespeculation about dissidence in the party.

Lyngdoh also warned that action would be initiatedagainst any MLA who goes against instructions of the party.

Meghalaya, a political volatile state, has seen 22governments in its 38-year statehood.
