Hyderabad, Feb 21 (PTI) Former Congress MP Y S JaganMohan Reddy today continued his week-long fast for release offunds for tuition fees reimbursement and his supportersthreatened to "lay siege" to Andhra Pradesh Assembly if theGovernment failed to release funds by February 24.
Some of the student leaders, who visited Jagan atIndira Park, where he has been fasting since February 18, saidthey would lay siege to the Assembly if the CongressGovernment failed to release funds by February 24.
Congress MLA Konda Surekha, a die-hard loyalist ofJagan, appeared to have endorsed the student leaders who saidthey will "gherao" the Assembly, which is in session.
"All students in Andhra Pradesh should unite and riselike a tidal wave. This Government should wash away in it. Thestudents who are sitting here have said they will lay siege tothe Assembly if the Government failed to release funds by themorning of February 24," she said. Jagan''s fast is supposed toend by 5 pm on February 24.
MLC Jupudi Prabhakara Rao, another loyalist of Jagan,criticised the Government for not sending any representativeto meet the former Kadapa MP. Jagan is weak due to the fastand was suffering from low blood pressure, he said.
Meanwhile, over 10 MLAs, including Surekha, ShobhaNagireddy, Jayasudha, Srikant Reddy, met Jagan.
The dues in school fees reimbursement are to the tuneof Rs 3,400 crore. The Government has agreed to release Rs1,000 crore. Professional colleges have threatened to shutdownfrom February 24 if the Government failed to release at least50 per cent of the pending funds.
