Dhaka, Feb 21 (PTI) Ireland have made massive strides ininternational cricket, said captain William Porterfield,warning that opposition sides should take his team lightly attheir own peril in the ongoing World Cup.
Ireland had been the giant-killers of the previous WorldCup, knocking out Pakistan in the first round and beatingBangladesh in the Super Eight stage.
They will take on Bangladesh in their World Cup opener onFriday and Porterfield said the Irish are confident of a goodshow even this time around.
"The way we are playing right now, we''ll be confidentgoing into the match on Friday. The conditions here might bedifferent from what we are used to, but not necessarily adifficult one. We''ve had some good preparation," Porterfieldsaid.
"We played pretty well in the last couple of warm-upgames, picked up the momentum, and we will be feeling prettyconfident."
Porterfield said the players have become more confidentand cricket has picked up as a sport in Ireland.
"It makes a massive difference to our cricket," said theskipper, who has 1,371 runs from 44 matches at an average of33.43 with five centuries.
"We are confident of at least progressing to thequarter-finals. We are improving every game. The squad israring to go," he told ''Yahoo Cricket''.
