Dalit youth killed in suspected honour killing

Sultanpurlodhi (Pb), Feb 21 (PTI) In a suspected case ofhonour killing, a Dalit kabaddi player was allegedly murderedhere by the father of the upper cast girl he was in arelationship with, a senior police officer said today.

Sandeep Singh, in his early twenties, was allegedlymurdered by Balwinder Singh at their house in Lakhwarianvillage on the night of February 6, Deputy SP Gurmeet Singhsaid.

A case was registered today against Balwinder undervarious sections of the IPC including 302 (murder) and it issuspected that the victim''s body was thrown in the Beas river,the DSP said, adding that the body is yet to be recovered.

Balwinder today surrendered in the court of the judicialmagistrate here and was remanded to police custody, he said.

Sandeep''s father Amreek Singh, a resident of Chuladhavillage, had lodged a complaint with the police stating thathis son was missing since February 6 and he feared that he hadbeen killed as he had a relationship with a girl belonging tothe predominant Jat community.

The DSP said the victim had gone to the girl''s house onthe night of February 6, where her parents found the two inobjectionable circumstances and he was killed with lethalweapons.

Balwinder''s interrogation was under progress, he said,adding, the girl is missing from her house and it is suspectedthat the parents have sent her to their relative''s house. PTICor SUN DKS
