WB CM smashes hopes of Gorkhaland supporters

Siliguri, Feb 21: Gorkhaland seems like a distant dream and West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has poured water on the hopes and aspirations of many supporters. In a function the Chief Minister reiterated in clear-cut words that the demand for a separate Gorkhaland would never be fulfilled.

He also took the opportunity to advice the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) to concentrate on bringing development to the region rather than demanding for a separate state.

"Stop your movement for a Gorkhaland. It will never be fulfilled. Concentrate on all round development of Darjeeling as it is the only solution to the issue," the CM has been quoted as saying. He also added that the GJM's demand for the inclusion of Terai, Dooars and Siliguri in a proposed interim council will never be conceded.

The GJM plans to march from Sankoch to Kumani in Dooars hills demanding the formation of a separate state. They will kick start the march from Thursday.

Meanwhile, Bhattacharjee also added that it was crucial that peace prevails in Darjeeling and development be initiated in the region.
