Woman beheaded by mentally unstable mother
Mumbai, Feb 19 (PTI) In a gruesome killing, a 26-year-oldwoman was beheaded allegedly by her mentally unstable motherfollowing an argument at their residence at Virar in theneighbouring Thane district, police said today.
The accused Ratna Nadar (50) was arrested and producedbefore a local court which asked the police to take her to amental hospital at Thane.
After chopping her daughter Amalameri''s head, legs andhands, the accused tried to torch her inside the house, policesaid adding the accused was undergoing treatment for mentaldisorder for the past two years.
According to police, Ratna started shouting on the floorpassage yesterday afternoon following which Amalameri took herinside the house. Later, the neighbours heard commotion andarguments but did not take it seriously.
The father of the deceased Silveraj, who works as afitter in a factory, returned home at 9.30 pm. Irate Ratnaopened the door after repeated knocks by Silveraj who foundher daughter''s body chopped into pieces by a knife and heavyinjuries on head. He immediately alerted the neighbours andthe police.
"The accused was not in a position to say anything. Whenasked why she murdered her daughter, she said that Amala didnot prepare tea or food," said a police officer.
In the court also, the accused did not reply toquestions by the Magistrate following which she was taken tothe mental hospital.
As her mother was mentally unfit, Amala was takingcare of her and was not working anywhere, police said addingthat further probe was on.
