UP''s Ashish, Tripura''s Dipa win individual gold in gymnastics

Ranchi, Feb 19 (PTI) Ashish Kumar of Uttar Pradesh andTripura''s Dipa Karmakar won the gold medals in men and women''sall round individual gymnastics competitions of the 34thNational Games at Khelgaon here today.

Kumar notched up 83.95 points take the yellow metal,leaving behind SSCB''s Rakesh Patra for the silver. Patrascored 79.80 points.

Kumar''s state-mate Aditya Singh Rana (76.85) secured thebronze medal in the main field of nine gymnasts.

Tripura opened their gold count when Karmakar securedmaximum points in the women''s individual gymnasticscompetition.

Punjab''s Minakshi and Maharashtra''s Vandita Rawat tookthe silver and bronze medals respectively.

Yesterday, the SSCB men had won gold in the teamcompetition and Andhra Pradesh had to satisfy with the bronze.

Continuing their brilliant performance, Maharashtra womenwon the Artistic Gymnastics team competitions late last night.

Maharashtra, who scored 219.45 points to edge past WestBengal (211.95 points) to finish at the top, have clinchedseven gold so far in the Gymnastic competitions. They have twosilvers and four bronze medals in their kitty.

With 188.25 points, Andhra Pradesh girls took the bronze.

On Thursday, Maharashtra had won six gold medals in theRhythmic gymnastics.
