Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 19 (PTI) Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan today condoled the death of Olympian and 1978Asian Games gold medallist Suresh Babu during the ongoing 34thNational Games at Ranchi this morning.
In his message, the Chief Minister said Suresh Babu''sfeats had earned a name for Kerala in sports worldwide.
"Suresh Babu left us at a time when he was playing a leadrole in nurturing new talents in athletics from the state. Thedeath is a big loss the sports field in Kerala," he said.
Achuthanandan gave instructions to the Chief Secretary tomake arrangements for bringing the body to the state.
Sports Minister M Vijayakumar, in his message, expresseddeep sorrow over the death of Suresh Babu and said the statehad lost an athlete who earned Kerala a name outside the stateand the country.
Vijayakumar said Suresh Babu was the architect of thestate government''s dream project ''go for gold'' aimed atcoaching athletes for the 2016 Olympics. He was acting as thetechnical director and coach of the ''Centre of Excellence''formed for the purpose.
Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and Devaswom MinisterRamachandran Kadannappally also condoled the death of SureshBabu.
