Bangalore, Feb 20: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa might not be delighted with BJP high command's decision but now it's final. Bollywood's dream girl - Hema Malini has been choosen as the party candidate for the by-election to the Rajya Sabha seat scheduled for Mar 3.

Sources earlier reported that Yeddyurappa had declared that he favoured the former Union Minister of State for Finance V Dhananjaya Kumar, who is the Special Representative of Karnataka in New Delhi.

Sources also informed that it's BJP's general secretary Ananth Kumar who has named Hema Malini as the Rajya Sabha candidate.

Following the death of the former Union Minister and JD(S) leader, M Rajashekara Murthy, the by-election to the seat was vacated.

However, Hema Malini is not the first actor who is experiencing a hand in Indian politics. There are several instances where political parties have tried to gain more votes using star-popularity ahead of elections.

Some of the actors, who have come into politics, are:

  • Vinod Khanna
  • Govinda
  • Chiranjeevi
  • Jayalalitha
  • Late Sunil Dutt
  • Smriti Irani
  • Shabana Azmi
  • Rajesh Khanna
  • Amitabh Bachchan and many more.
