Bail prayers of four Maoists rejected, one deferred in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Feb 19 (PTI) A court today rejected thebail plea of four senior Maoist leaders and their associateswhose release was demanded by Naxal-abductors of MalkangiriDistrict Collector and a junior engineer.

The plea for similar relief for another person, whosefreedom was also demanded by Maoists, was posted for hearingon Monday.

The bail pleas of Maoist Gantiprasad, who is chargedin about 100 cases in Andhra Pradesh and Orissa, Padma, wifeof a senior Maoist leader, and her associates Mukul Kulditiaand Runei Taringi were rejected by a court in Koraput.

Additional District Judge of the Fast Track court inMalkangiri, P K Karna, fixed Monday for hearing the bailapplication of Srinivas Sriramulu, a most wanted Maoist inAndhra Pradesh arrested in July 2007 from Kalimela area.

Former chief of Revolutionary Writers Association,Sriramulu had been lodged in Malkangiri jail except for a fewmonths when he was taken to Andhra Pradesh in connection withsome cases against him in the neighbouring state.

He was acquitted in four cases by a Malkangiri courtwhile hearing in another was on.

The bail plea of Padma was rejected by Sub-divisionalJudicial Magistrate (SDJM) in Koraput. Padma is facingcharges, including waging war against the state and criminalconspiracy.

Padma was apprehended along with Mukul and Runei whenthey had visited Koraput in November last year.

Gantiprasad was arrested separately by Orissa policein November, 2010, from Srikakulum in Andhra Pradesh and threeothers in the same month in Koraput.
