KABUL: A coalition forces air weapons team in Afghanistan on Friday engaged a large number of armed insurgents in the Ghaziabad district of Kunar province, killing more than 30 insurgents.
The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said the air weapons team positively identified armed insurgents in the area while on an aerial security patrol and engaged them. "After the initial firing, a large number of armed individuals emerged from a nearby building and were subsequently targeted and killed by the air weapons team," ISAF said in a statement.
Several additional armed individuals were positively identified and killed over the course of the more than four-hour engagement, ISAF added. It said there were no reports of civilian casualties.
