Corruption cases brought some harm to Army credibility: Antony

Ranga Pahar (Nagaland), Feb 18 (PTI) Observing that theArmy''s credibility and image have been "harmed" due to recentcorruption cases, Defence Minister A K Antony today saidstrict action will be taken against personnel found guilty ofwrongdoings.

In the recent past, a number of senior serving andretired Army officials have faced allegations of involvementin scandals such as Adarsh Housing Society, Sukna andKandivali land scam.

"Some recent instances of corruption in high places inthe Army have brought some harm to its credibility and image.

All of you must ensure that dignity of the Army is maintainedat all times. We will take very strict action whenever anycase of corruption comes, or is brought to our notice," theminister said.

The Defence Minister was addressing soldiers at the 3Corps headquarters here.

On a two-day visit to the North-Eastern states, theDefence Minister also asked the Army to be vigilant and keepan eye on smallest developments in the neighbourhood andensure a high-level of operational preparedness.

The Defence Minister also asked the troops to win thehearts and minds and to project the Army in a positive lightand establish a healthy relationship with the local populace.

In his meeting with the top Army commanders, Antonyreviewed the security situation at the border and the progressmade in the development of infrastructure in the North-Eastregion.

Army chief General V K Singh, Defence Secretary PradeepKumar, Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen Bikram Singh and GOC 3Corps Lt Gen N K Singh were also present on the occasion. PTIAJD
