Tribal group calls for indefinite bandh in Dooars

Jalpaiguri (WB), Feb 17 (PTI) The GJM''s bid to takeout a march to Sipchu in this district in protest against theFebruary 8 police firing on its activists was opposed by atribal group today which began an indefinite bandh in Dooarsarea of West Bengal.

An indefinite bandh by Adivasi Vikas Parishad began inDooars area of West Bengal today even as the strike inDarjeeling entered its tenth day.

About 250 GJM activists during the day began apadayatra from Sankosh to Sipchu, the scene of police firingon the outfit''s activists last week which claimed three lives.

Police, however, stopped them at Hatipota, which is inhabitedby a large number of adivasis.

GJM president Bimal Gurung is camping at Kumani on theJalpaiguri-Darjeeling border since February 11, demanding hebe allowed by authorities to take out a padayatra to Sankoshin support of a separate state of Gorkhaland.

The bandh in Darjeeling is on to press for the demandand has hit normal life across the district.
