Hyderabad, Feb 18 (PTI) Tension prevailed in Hussainialamarea here this evening after members of a community peltedstones on police and their vehicles alleging that a subinspector made derogatory remarks against the community.
A group of protesters pelted stones damaging sevenvehicles, police said adding the personnel of Rapid ActionForce (RAF) and other security forces were deployed in thearea to bring the situation under control.
"Members of a community protested against some remarksallegedly made by a Sub-Inspector and pelted stones on policevehicles. We are enquiring into the matter and will takenecessary action. The situation is now under control,"Hyderabad Police Commissioner A K Khan told PTI.
Police sources said that trouble broke out after somepersons went to the Hussainialam Police Station seekingpermission to hold a religious procession and when aSub-Inspector reportedly told them that the community hadrecently celebrated their festival and what was the needto hold a meeting again.
Following this, an argument ensued between the membersof the community and the police officer and soon localsassembled in large numbers and staged a demonstrationdemanding action against the SI.
An angry group pelted stones on the police and theirvehicles when police used mild force to control the mob, thesources said.
