Mumbai, Feb 17 (PTI) With the restrictions on sand miningslowing down the progress of several development projects,corporators today demanded that the time-frame of suchprojects be extended.
Citing the shortage of sand as a reason, corporatorsasked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to extendthe deadline of March 31 for project completion.
"There are several projects which could not be completedin the last four months due to shortage of sand....So the BMCmust extend the time and billing period beyond March," BJPcorporator Yogesh Sagar said.
Congress corporator Rajendraprasad Chaubey said, "Due toshortage of sand nearly 50-60 per cent of work is yet to bestarted and those projects where work has started are alsofacing shortage of sand."
Earlier Municipal Commissioner Subodh Kumar had askedcontractors to complete projects within the stipulated time.
Additional Municipal Commissioner M M Adtani today said,"We will discuss the matter with the Commissioner and take adecision."
Last year, Bombay High Court had banned sand mining inthe state for some time, citing environmental issues. The banwas later revoked.
