Mega lok adalat takes up 307 cases on day one

Jaipur, Feb 17 (PTI) The two-day Mega Lok Adalat held inthe Rajasthan High Court started with a big bang today with307 cases being taken up for resolution throughreconciliation.

Three benches of retired High Court judges - Justices(retd) Anoop Chand Goyal, S C Mittal and Guman Singh - took upthe 307 cases relating to Rajasthan Roadways Employees andMotor Vehicle Accident Claims.

"We have made this Lok Adalat a routine feature and thefirst day was just a curtain raiser to tell the litigants andadvocates that settlement by ways of conciliation andmediation must be enhanced," said Justice Dalip Singh,Chairman, Rajasthan High Court Legal Awareness Committee.

Around 450 cases more will now be taken up tomorrow, hesaid.

While inaugurating the two-day Mega Lok Adalat under thebanner of Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority (RSLSA),Chief Justice Arun Kumar Mishra said, "RSLSA must think oftaking services of sitting high court judges in the benchesthat are being constituted to decide the matters by way ofconciliation in Lok Adalats...This will increase confidence ofa litigant in the Lok Adalat system."

He said as many as 725 litigants applied today to placetheir cases for disposal through the Mega Lok Adalat proposedto be held in March this year.
