New Delhi, Feb 18 (PTI) India is concerned about 3.5 lakhIndian population in Bahrain, which is witnessing violentprotests against the ruling monarchy.
"Concerned about 350000 Indians in Bahrain. OurAmbassador is very alert to this issue and in touch withcommunity reps (representatives)," wrote Foreign SecretaryNirupama Rao on the micro-blogging website ''Twitter''.
Earlier in the day, thousands of mourners in Bahraincalled for the downfall of ruling monarchy as burials beganafter a deadly assault on pro-reform protesters that hasbrought army tanks into the streets of one of the moststrategic Western allies in the Gulf.
The brutal attack yesterday on a protest encampment inBahrain''s capital Manama left at least five dead and more than230 injured.
