Dubai, Feb 17 (PTI) Pacer Tinashe Panyangara will takethe spot of an injured Edward Rainsford in Zimbabwe''s WorldCup squad after the event''s Technical Committee approved thereplacement today.
"...the Event Technical Committee of the ICC CricketWorld Cup 2011 has approved Tinashe Panyangara as areplacement player for the injured Edward Rainsford in theZimbabwe squad for the tournament," the ICC said in astatement.
The confirmation was conveyed to the Zimbabwe Cricket onbehalf of the committee. Panyangara will replace Rainsford,who has injured his right ankle ligaments.
Any injury-based replacement requires a writtensubmission to the event technical committee along with adiagnosis from a medical practitioner as to the extent of theinjury. Once replaced, a player cannot return to the squad.
Panyangara, a 25-year-old fast bowler, has taken 26wickets in 23 ODIs. He has also played three Tests in which hehas picked up eight wickets.
"Rainsford is the eighth player to be replaced in thetournament after compatriots Tinotenda Mawoyo and Sean Ervine,Australia''s Nathan Hauritz and Michael Hussey, Praveen Kumarof India, England''s Eoin Morgan and Sohail Tanvir of Pakistanwere earlier replaced," the ICC said.
As with all players in the tournament, the eligibility ofa replacement player is subject to approval by the ICC beforethat player can be officially added to the squad.
The Event Technical Committee of the World Cup consistsof David Richardson (ICC, chairman), Prof. Ratnakar Shetty(Tournament Director), Campbell Jamieson (IDI representative),Anil Kumble (host nominee), David Lloyd (independentnomination) and Sanjay Manjrekar (independent nomination). PTIPM
