Margao, Feb 16 (PTI) Churchill Brothers fought from agoal down to score a convincing�3-1 over JCT in the 15th roundI-League match at the Nehru stadium here today.
The Goan side, which started with a lone foreigner in theform of Boima Karpeh, kept the rival under pressure with aseries of moves even as they called the shots.
However, they were unsuccessful with tries by Karpeh,Mohammed Rafi, Bineesh Balan and Lenny Rodrigues either missedthe target or were foiled by the rival custodian. Churchillwere also unlucky as couple of shots hit the woodwork.
JCT, who were busy defending their citadel, came with acouple of moves that surprised the hosts and also gave themthe lead in the 35th minute.
Following a foul on the top of the box when defenderGouramangi Moirangthem handled the ball, JCT defender OmolajaNurain Kareem took the direct kick and was successful as hisshot found the far corner of the net.
The goal did not deter Churchill Brothers as theycontrolled the midfield with Man of the Match Lenny Rodriguesand Zakeer Mundampara combining well to keep the upfront busy.
Steven Dias, who played the role of the provider on theright flank, kept the rival defender guessing with his teasingcrosses but Karpeh failed to cash on the chances and Churchillhad to wait till the stoppage time of the first half to findthe equaliser.
Rodrigues from the middle played a pass to Mohammed Rafiinside the box who connected with a stiff grounder to find thenet. (More) PTI MCS VKV
