New Delhi, Feb 16 (PTI) Traffic movement was slow in asection of central Delhi today where civic authorities wereworking to repair a portion of a road that had caved increating a five-ft-deep crater.
A portion of Hailey Road near Kasturba Gandhi Margcollapsed yesterday after "trench-less digging" damaged awater pipeline underneath the road.
The damaged section of the road was unfit forvehicular movement and traffic had to be diverted to otherroads, leading to disruptions and slow movement, more so inthe busy morning hours.
This was the second such incident in the same areasince February 8.
After rain lashed the city yesterday, a five-ft-deepcrater was created on the damaged section of the road andtraffic police had to divert traffic.
New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) officials said thecivic body was working to repair the damaged pipeline and theroad.
"The repair work is on. The water pipeline broken dueto trench-less digging will be restored in a day or two," anNDMC spokesperson said.
In trench-less digging, only the sides of the road aredug to lay pipelines or other utilities instead of cutting thewhole road open. This technology is used as it does not affecttraffic much but it often leads to damage to other pipelinesbelow the road.
