Simarjeet and Rakesh lead on day one of the NCR Cup

New Delhi, Feb 15 (PTI) Veterans Simarjeet Singh andRakesh Kumar returned identical cards of two over 74 to sharethe lead on the tough opening day of the NCR Cup golftournament at Delhi Golf Club here today.

Following them closely were HS Kang, Arshad Ali andSiddharth Semwal, who all are tied for the third position atthree over 75 at the close of play today.

"We did expect a difficult day as the city has beenexperiencing light showers since yesterday. The heavy rainsslowed down the game and the dampness never let the ball carryon for a longer distance as a result it wasn''t one of the bestscoring days for most of us competing here," said Simarjeetof Noida Golf Club, after round one.

Kanishka Madan and Mohd. Wazir were tied for the sixthplace at four over 76 and following them were Madan and Wazirwas Karan Taunk for the eighth place at five over 77.

Angad Cheema, CG Somaiah, Subhankar Sharma and Rishi RajSaini were tied ninth with a total score of six over 78 at theend of the first round.

The NCR Cup is an IGU categorized Amateur golf tournamentand the winner and the runner-up get an entry to the AustrianAmateur championship to be held at Austria in July 2011. PTIAT
