Rains lash parts of Rajasthan, crops damaged

Jaipur/Bundi, Feb 16 (PTI) Rains triggered by westerndisturbance continued to lash parts of Rajasthan, damagingcrops in many villages of Bundi district.

Heavy showers coupled with hailstorms lashed Bundidistrict last night damaging crops of wheat, mustard,coriander seeds and lentils.

Hailstorm lashed several villages including Sukhpura,Gothera, Mandi, Bhagwanipura, Tokera, Panch ki Bawari ofHindoli sub-division last evening following which standingcrop was damaged in these villages, Mandi village SarpanchBhuribai said.

Hindoli MLA Prabhulal Saini has demanded a survey ofthe damage caused to the crop by the rains and appropriatecompensation for affected farmers.

Bundi Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Amanulla Khansaid that the revenue officials have been asked to estimatethe loss due to untimely thundershowers.

Reports of hailstorm and showers also came in fromHindoli, Nainwa, Lekhari and Bundi sub-divisions of thedistrict. The thundershowers damaged the crops of mustard andcoriander seeds in Kankala, Utarana, Budhala and manyvillages of Lekhari sub-division last evening, officials said.

Similarly, damage to the extent of 60 to 70 per centis feared caused by the evening spell in Kalayanpura, Sadara,Fathapura, Jaitpur, Talwas, Suri, Karwar, Jhakmund and dozenother villages in the Nainwa sub division.

Former MLA from Nainwa, Harimohan Sharma, has demandedcompensation for affected farmers.

Rains were also received at places like Bharatpur,Pilani, Dholpur, Ajmer, Jaipur, Sikar, Kota, Sawaimadhopur.

Sikar recorded a maximum rainfall of 28 mm, the MeTdepartment today said.

While, a few other places in Karauli, Dausa, Tonk,Sawaimadhopur, Bundi, Bhilwara, Sikar and Bikaner districtswitnessed heavy rainfall and hail last night.

Meanwhile, some parts of the desert state recordedminimum temperatures between 10.2 deg C to 15.6 deg C, MeTdepartment said.
