Shillong, Feb 15 (PTI) Opposition NCP in Meghalaya todaytook a dig at the state unit of Congress over yesterdaysvisit of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi, saying theCongress "wanted to take political mileage in a wrong way".
"His (Rahul Gandhi) intentions may have been clear. Hewanted to interact with the students which he has been doingacross the country. But the state Congress wanted to take apolitical mileage in a wrong way," Opposition leader ConradSangma said.He suggested that the Gandhi scion should also visitrural areas and resort to a long-drawn programme and not justconfine his visit to the prime varsities.
Yesterdays Rahul Gandhis interaction with students atthe North Eastern Hill University here sparked a controversyafter the media was conspicuously kept out of the programme, prompting them to boycott it.
During the interaction, Rahul Gandhi encouraged thestudents to join the Congress, students who attended saidlater even as Congress activists distributed NSUI membershipforms after the interaction.
Critical of the visit at this time of the year whenexams were around and the controversy over the interactionallegedly turning out to be an recruitment meet, Conrad said,"there should be a line drawn somewhere. The state Congress isanswerable to the allegations. It was not correct on theirpart." PTI RTJRG
