Krishna tribunal award: AP parties want Government to move SC

Hyderabad, Feb 15 (PTI) All political parties inAndhra Pradesh today asked the Government to immediately filean appeal in the Supreme Court against the Krishna WaterDisputes Tribunal (KWDT) award and protect the state''sinterests over utilisation of Krishna water.

They promised to extend all support to the Governmentin unitedly fighting for the interests of the state.

More than 47 days after the KWDT, headed by JusticeBrijesh Kumar, delivered its verdict on the utilisation ofKrishna water, the AP Government tonight convened an all-party meeting to discuss the fallout of the report and thecourse of action needed to be taken.

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy chaired the meetingthat lasted over three-and-a-half hours in the Secretariat.

The Opposition parties slammed the Congress Governmentfor failing to argue the state''s case effectively before theTribunal and ensure AP got its rightful share of water.

"The Government admitted to its failure in thisregard," TDP Member of Parliament M V Mysura Reddy toldnewspersons at the end of the meeting.

Political parties, mainly TDP, CPM, CPI, BJP and LokSatta, suggested that the Government engage eminent andproficient lawyers at least this time to argue the State''scase effectively in the Supreme Court.

Responding to this, the Chief Minister said, "We haveto protect the state''s interests at any cost. We will engagethe best legal experts. We are trying for senior lawyers likeK Parasaran, Harish Salve and others. We will definitely fightit out politically and legally." (more) PTI DBV RSY
