Environmentalists protest transportation of nuclear wastes
Berlin, Feb 16 (Prensa Latina) Environmentalists inGermany announced that they would extend their protest againstthe transportation and recycling of nuclear waste nearresidential areas and insist on it being stored in a nucleardeposit.
Greenpeace activists blocked the railway line near thecentral town of Karlsruhe yesterday to prevent the transfer of140 drawers of steel and a mixture of radioactive glass infive containers, a substance called nuclear soup byenvironmentalists.
The demonstrators, some of them chained to the entranceof the Lubmin nuclear power plant, demanded the fissile liquidwaste be stored in a nuclear deposit instead of beingrecycled.
They warned that transporting it to a temporary site inLubmin entail incalculable environmental damage.
In Wittenberg, residents have hung a yellow wooden crossas a symbol of anti-nuclear movement in protest against thepassage of the convoy heading for the state of WesternMecklenburg-Pomerania in northern Germany, scheduled forWednesday. (Prensa Latina)
