Patiala, Feb 15 (PTI) The State Bank of Patiala (SBOP)today said it has signed a MoU to become a Registrar for theUnique Identification Authority of India.
The bank has become a partner in the efforts of UIDAI inenrollment of residents under the UID Project and will assistthe authority at various stages of the project, SBOP ManagingDirector Ashok Nayar said.
SBOP will engage enrollment agencies approved by UIDAIfor capturing biometric and demographic data of the residentsand for issuing UID numbers, he said.
Giving further details of the project, Nayar saidparticipation in the UID Project will help to minimise frauds,multiple financing and mis utilisation of banking channels bycorrect and proper identification of the customers.
He said the bank would set up a "core team" to overseethe implementation of UID Project in the identified places.
The bank has planned to fit together the FinancialInclusion Plan with the UID enrollment for new customers. Itwill also facilitate issuance of ''Aadhar'' number for itsexisting customers, enabling the bank to deploy Aadhar-basedservices across various delivery channels like ATMs, headded.
