Phool Bagh no longer venue of political rallies

Kanpur, Feb 15 (PTI) The historical Phool Bagh ground inthe city will no longer be a venue of political rallies withthe authorities deciding to develop it as a park to attracttourists.

"Phool Bagh will no longer be a venue of politicalrallies. It will be developed as a park to attract tourists,"Kanpur Mandal Commissioner P K Mohanti said here today.

Located at the centre of the city at Mall Road, theground has been a preferred venue for political parties tohost public meetings and rallies for a long time. However, ithas also been a cause of inconvenience for people due to hugetraffic jams caused during these gatherings, he said.

The ancient park houses Ganesh Udyan building, anorthopaedic hospital set up during the First World War.

The district administration will shift the venue for suchevents outside the city, an official said.
