Maha sets up Economic Offence Wing in every district
Mumbai, Feb 15 (PTI) Acting tough against cases offinancial frauds, Maharashtra Home Department has set up anEconomic Offences Wing (EOW) in all districts of the state.
"The district level EOWs have been empowered to take suomoto action based on doubtful advertisements in the mediaalluring people for some financial benefits," Home Minister RR Patil said today.
Patil reviewed cases of financial frauds in the statealong with DGP D Sivanandan, city commissioner of policeSanjeev Dayal and principle secretary (law and judiciary) AAchalia.
The Home department is also checking a possibility togive authority to EOW officials to consult with charteredaccountants or retired bank officers to detect the nature ofthe crime, Patil said.
The officers in EOWs are trained by experts to deal withfinancial cheating and fraud cases, he said.
The EOWs have been asked to organise awareness programmesfor people to remain alert about advertisements claiming falsefinancial profits, he added.
