Maharashtra dairies to jack-up milk prices from tomorrow

Mumbai, Feb 15 (PTI) Major dairies in Maharashtra havejacked-up their milk prices from tomorrow in the range of Rs1-Rs 3 depending, upon the category.

Two dairies - Gokul and Varana - today said that theyhave increased their prices by up to Rs 3 from tomorrow,across the state.

However, Mahananda Dairy, the state''s apex milkco-operative body, will be hiking its price by Re 1 only andthe hike will be restricted to the Mumbai region, its Chairmansaid.

"Since the Government has increased milk procurementprices, we had to revise our prices. Our Board has decided toincrease milk prices for the Mumbai region (only) by Re 1,"Mahananda''s Chairman, Vinayak Patil, told PTI here.

The Maharashtra Government has increased milk procurementprices by Rs 2 per litre for cow milk and Rs 2.5 per litre forbuffalo milk.

"Our revised rates will be implemented from February 17,"Patil said.

According to the revised rates, Mahananda''s cow milk willcost Rs 27 per litre as against the existing Rs 26. Prices ofits toned milk will increase from Rs 25 to Rs 26 per litrewhile that of doubled toned milk will cost Rs 25 per litreinstead of Rs 24.

Gokul and Varana, however, have upped their milk pricesby Rs 2 per litre for cow milk and by Rs 3 per litre forbuffalo milk.

Both of them have also increased their toned milk pricesby Re 1.
