Chennai, Feb 14 (PTI): The Madras High Court today directedthe Additional public prosecutor to produce the three childrenof a remand prisoner before the court by tomorrow.
A Division Bench, comprising Justices C Nagappan and MSathyanarayanan passed the order on a Habeas Corpus petitionfiled by Karunai Raj, a remand prisoner now confined inCentral Prison, Chennai,
Karunai Raj sought to produce before the court and set atliberty his children Shyamala (18), Tikadevan(6) and Bumiputri(5) who he said were being kept under illegal detention at DonBosco Illam under instruction of the Commissioner of Police.
He was arrested on August 23 2010 in connection with amurder case and a cheatin case.
After arresting him and his wife, police took custody ofhis children. For quite a long time, their whereabouts werenot known, he contended.
Karunai Raj said that senior police officers werecontinuing to harass and threaten him to retract hisconfession given before a magistrate after learning that hehad implicated many of them in a murder case.
Raj in his petition said he was told his children would bein danger if he failed to retract his confession.
