London, Feb 15 (ANI): A gay waiter in Britain, who had his nipples tweaked by a customer at a Michelin-starred restaurant, has been awarded 21,500 pounds after winning his discrimination claim.
Vincent Ma, 31, was subjected to sustained harassment at the Yauatcha Chinese restaurant in Soho, central London, an employment tribunal was told.
Ma said he was left humiliated when two male managers simulated sex acts in front of him, and how when a customer pinched his nipple as he served food, his boss asked him: "Did you like it?"
The manager also sang Madonna's 'Like a Virgin' to Ma and would pretend to perform a gay kiss on another manager while the pair fondled each other on the stairs in front of him.
A panel at Central London Employment Tribunal ruled that Ma suffered harassment on the grounds of sexual orientation and was constructively dismissed.
It ordered Hakkasan Limited, which owns Yauatcha, to pay Ma 21,571 pounds for lost earnings and injury to feelings.
"I am delighted to have won but the money cannot compensate me for the harassment and humiliation I experienced at work," the Daily Mail quoted Ma as saying after the ruling.
"It has been a long process from raising my claim to the main tribunal hearing and remedy hearing and my health has suffered a lot.
"Hakkasan will pay the money to me and for them it will solve the problem. But I do not think they have learnt any lesson from what happened to me," he stated. (ANI)
