UP STF arrests youth for murdering girl

Lucknow, Feb 14 (PTI) A youth was today arrested bythe Special Task Force on charges of killing a girl after sheresisted his attempt to sexually assault her in Deoriadistrict, a senior UP police official said here.

"Abhishek Kushwaha was arrested near Salempur railwaystation this morning for murder of Priyanka, who was killed inViraajmaar village in November last year," Special DGP BrijLal told reporters.

He said that Priyanka went missing on November 23 whenshe was returning from a marriage function and her body wasrecovered from the fields on the next day.

"During her visit on February 4, Chief MinisterMayawati had directed to work out the case after which theinvestigation was handed over to the STF," Lal said.

He said that during investigation Abhishek''s namecropped up and was arrested.

"The accused admitted that he intended to rapePriyanka, but when the girl resisted he killed her," Brij Lalsaid.
