SSCB wins three gold medals on day two in Taekwondo

Ranchi, Feb 14 (PTI) The Services Sports Control Board(SSCB) won three gold medals while Madhya Pradesh bagged twoout of a total eight yellow metals that were decided in theTaekwondo men and women''s events of the 34th National Games atthe Khelgaon here today.

M Oken Meitei, A Naobi Singh and Ibrahim Khan overcamestrong resistance from Goa''s Chandan Lakra, Manipal Singh ofMP and Haryana''s Navjeet Maan in the under-68, under-74 andunder-87 men''s bouts respectively.

Arjun Ravat (men''s under-58) of Madhya Pradeshoverpowered a strong challenge from another SSCB''s A PradeepSingh to give his team its first gold medal of the event,before compatriot Shalu Raikwar won the women''s under-73 boutagainst Karnataka''s B Varsha.

Jharkhand''s Tasin Begam (under-49) outclassedMaharastra''s Purva D Dixit to give her team its third goldmedal in the women''s events.

Sonam Rajput and K Srilakshmi had won golds yesterday.

P Rekha Devi gave the first gold to Karnataka when shewon her bout against Shristi Singh of Uttar Pradesh in thewomen''s under-62 kg category.

Manipur''s Y Shantibala Devi won the under-57 kg finalagainst Aarti Khakal of Madhya Pradesh, giving her team itsfirst yellow metal.

The men''s bronze medal winners were Manipur''s T PremjitSingh (under-68kg), Haryana''s Sunil Kumar (under-68), Goa''sSiraj Khan (under-74), MP''s Arjun Rawat (under-74),Jharkhand''s Fani Bhusan Prasad (under-87kg), Pune''s DineshKumar Bhati (under-87), Manipur''s E SAnatomba Singh (under-58)and Goa''s Sumit Tiwari (under-58).

The women''s bronze medal winners were Jharkhand''s ShaninaPerween (under-73kg), Sikkim''s M Somorani Devi (under-73),Maharashtra''s Snehal Kharade (under-57), Uttar Pradesh''sSurabhi Yadav (under-57), MP''s Priyanka Paul (under-49kg),UP''s Versha Singh (under-49kg), MP''s Monika Raikar (under-62)and Wangoleima Chanu of Kerala.
