Kuala Lumpur, Feb.14 (ANI): An eight-day nation wide MyDafter campaign will help 5000 "stateless" Malay Indians. The Special Implementation Task Force under the Prime Minister's Department, will handle the campaign that aims to address the issue of Malay Indians without basic documentation such as birth certificates, identification cards and citizenship.

MIC Youth chief T. Mohan said, 10,000 Indians in the country still do not have birth certificates and identification cards while 30,000 others held red Ics, the cards issued to non-Malaysians who are permanent residents in the country.

He also suggested that automatic citizenship could be provided to those who have held permanent resident status for 10 years and above.

Special counters to process applications will be set up during the campaign, in Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Pahang, Negri Sembilan, Malacca and Johor.

Nearly 500 volunteers will be stationed to assist the applications. People facing documentation problems can call MIC Youth at 03-40431111 or 019-3517474. (ANI)
