Srinagar, Feb 13 (PTI) Authorities here today issuedmedium danger avalanche warning in many parts of the KashmirValley including upper reaches of Gulmarg skiing resortfollowing fresh snowfall there.
"On the basis of inputs received from the Snow andAvalanche Study Establishment (SASE), medium danger avalanchewarning exists in snowbound areas above 2500 metre altitude,"a senior official said.
He said the areas where possibility of avalanche,following fresh snowfall, has increased include Anantnag,Banihal, Kishtwar, Shopian, Kulgam, Pulwama, Gulmarg, Naugam,Baramula, Uri, Kupwara, Tangdhar, Keran, Machhil, Bandipur,Gurez, Drass and Kargil.
"People living in these areas are advised not toventure in steep avalanche prone slopes during till 8:00 pmtomorrow," the official added.
He also advised the people to keep clearing the snowfrom roof tops of their houses to avoid any causality due toroof collapse.
The official said fresh snowfall was experienced inseveral areas of north Kashmir.
"At Gulmarg, at least one foot of fresh snowfall hasaccumulated while in gurez it has crossed the 14 inch mark.
Snowfall is going on at Kulan (4 inches), Sonamarg (6inches) and Tangmarg (4 inches)," he said.
The official said the AN-32 Kargil courier servicecould not operate due to snowfall at Kargil.
"There is a forecast of snow tomorrow also mostly inthe north Kashmir as well as some parts of Pir Panchal insouth," he added.
