''Krishna has moral right to continue as External Affairs Min''

Hyderabad, Feb 13 (PTI) External Affairs Minister S MKrishna has no "moral right" to continue in the post after hebrought "shame" to the country by reading the speech ofPortuguese minister at the UN Security Council, senior BJPleader Venkaiah Naidu said today.

"Was it a negligence or mistake? Prime Minister ManmohanSingh should explain to the nation why and how it happened ata world forum and he should also explain what are the stepsbeing taken in this regard," Naidu told reporters here.

"It was a glaring example of how this government wasfunctioning and how ministers are working," he said.

Krishna has lost his "moral right" to continue in thepost by reading the text of his earlier speaker at the worldforum, he added.

The External Affairs Minister was caught in a publicgaffe when he inadvertently read out the speech of hisPortuguese counterpart at a UN Security Council meeting herebut rectified the error after an Indian official drew hisattention.

Speaking at the United Nations Security Council at adebate on security and development, Krishna read out the wrongspeech for about three minutes before being corrected byIndia''s envoy to the UN Hardeep Singh Puri.

Criticising the UPA government for not acting seriouslyagainst those involved in scams, Naidu said after interventionof highest bodies like the Supreme Court and Controller andAuditor General (CAG), media and the opposition parties, "wewant to know what are the steps taken by the Centre withregard to scams and scandals that have come to limelight."

"Let the Centre give an instance that it has acted inthis regard," he said. .
